In the springtime of 2023 I submitted this piece to the Sooke Fine Arts Show and it was swiftly rejected. I wasn’t too concerned about it since the other painting in my submission had been accepted. I promptly started promoting the accepted piece and put this painting in storage with the intention of eventually priming and painting over it.

It sat abandoned for over 3 years until earlier this summer, when I moved a bunch of canvases out of storage. I came across this painting and realized I had never shared it of really appreciated it, and perhaps I had been a little too hasty in my decision to do a repaint solely based on a jury’s rejection. I think rather than painting over it I will hang it on the wall and be inspired by starry skies and memories of camping.
